How will you know what plants will work in my garden?

By giving us your garden address, we can look up the zone you are in and ensure the plants fit your climate.  The USDA provides this plant hardiness zone breakout.  Also, by looking at your photos taken at different times of day, we know what sun/shade type plants we should use.

What if I don’t like a plant on my plant list?

We are happy to substitute a plant in your design.  Just email us and tell us why (such as ‘its spikey’).  That way we’ll swap with a plant you prefer.

Should I watch each video on the site?

Yes, the videos are short (generally 30 seconds) and are like having the designer in the room with you!

What if there are specific issues or preferences with my garden that you should know such as ‘we have deer’?

What are the water requirements of the gardens you?

We design low to medium maintenance gardens with low to medium water requirements.  Instead of a lot of perennials and annuals, which require a lot of ongoing care, we get our color primarily from flowering shrubs.

When will you send me my garden plan?

We return your full garden plan to you in 5 business days, starting from the time we receive your garden photos and layout.  We can’t start designing until we have those items.  Once you select and pay for the plan you want, you will receive an email with instructions.  The instructions are also downloadable. How do you decide what size plants to recommend?

We specify smaller sizes for small shrubs and perennials, with the idea that they will achieve 80% of their full size by year 3.  With larger shrubs and trees, we estimate they will be 80% of their size in 5-7 years.  We also follow the adage ‘First Year It Sleeps, Second Year It Creeps, Third Year It Leaps.  To learn more, click here.
